Purpose: Separate self-worth from performance
Achievement is measurable.Identity is not.
When self-worth becomes tied to output, clarity begins to distort.
Opening Scenario
You hit the goal.Closed the deal.Won the award.
And within days, the relief faded. Now you’re scanning for the next thing to prove.
That cycle isn’t ambition.It’s attachment.
What Happens When Identity = Performance
• Rest feels unsafe
• Mistakes feel personal
• Feedback feels threatening
• Success becomes temporary
Achievement becomes oxygen. Without it, you feel smaller.
The Identity Audit
Step 1: Who am I when I am not producing?
Step 2: What traits do people value in me that have nothing to do with success?
Step 3: If achievement disappeared tomorrow, what would remain?
These questions are uncomfortable — and clarifying.
Reflection Prompt
Where in your life are you over-identifying with output?
What Changes When Identity Expands
• Pressure decreases
• Confidence stabilizes
• Relationships deepen
• Decisions become less reactive
Achievement can enhance identity. It should not define it.
